Zeid and Candice discuss the book “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” by Phillip K Dick and eat and make (then discuss) the Greek pasta dish “Pastitsio”

Recipe:

Pasta

  • Macaroni Pastitsio no. 2 (misko) 500g,

Boil for 5-8 minutes (rolling boil) which will cook the pasta about 2/3rds of the way to finish cooking in the oven

Meat

  • 1 lb of ground beef,
  • 1/2 large onion (chopped),
  • 4 cloves of garlic (chopped),
  • 4 oz roasted red pepper,
  • 5 on the vine tomato, medium,
  • Olive oil as needed,
  • Centos crushed tomato 28 oz,
  • Onion And garlic powder,
  • salt and pepper as needed,

Pre fry the onion, garlic, peppers and fresh tomatoes with some olive oil until onion is translucent. Then add meat and brown, then add the can of centos and rest of spices and simmer for 5 min or so and then set this aside.

Bechamel

  • 3.5 cups of half and half
  • 4 oz of butter
  • 4 oz of flour
  • 6 oz mozzarella cheese give or take (look for the right consistency, which to me is like paste)
  • salt and pepper as needed

Melt butter in a pan, add flour and whisk until smooth. Add half and half slowly in pan so as not to form clumps then add cheese. Some people add eggs here, if you want add a couple of eggs for a more firm texture, I didn’t.

Assemble

  • 4 oz Feta Cheese (more to sprinkle on top if you want)

Preheat oven to 360 Degrees F In a dutch oven or other safe deep dish put the boiled noodles in the bottom and add 2 eggs and a splash of olive oil and 4 oz of feta cheese. Add a spoon of your bechamel to your meat mixture to assist in it bonding. Then spoon your meat mixture into the pan as well and tap it on the table until it’s all set. Add the bechamel on the top, then sprinkle some feta on top if you want and you’re ready for this to go in the oven. Bake for 40 mins at 360F or until top is nice and browned.
